Brushing Your Gums & Tongue Doesn’t Make a Difference
This is absolutely false! Brushing your gums and tongue are just as important as brushing your teeth. Take an extra minute or two and make sure you brush every inch of your gums and tongue. This will help remove the plaque. If plaque isn’t removed, it could lead to gingivitis, inflammation, or even gum disease. Brushing your gums and tongue will significantly reduce these risks.
Whiter Teeth is a Sign of Healthy Teeth
Just because your teeth are white on the outside doesn’t mean that the inside is extremely healthy. In our society today, white teeth equates beauty but not necessarily health. It’s important to schedule an appointment with Dr. Strandburg twice a year (at least) to clean your teeth and check for cavities.
The More Sugar I Eat, the More Cavities I’ll Have
This is a tricky myth. While the more processed sugars you have may indeed contribute to cavities, that’s not what causes cavities. Cavities are caused by a lack of hygiene and dental care. If you forego brushing your teeth, flossing, and rinsing with mouth wash, the chances of cavities increase. Make it a habit to brush twice a day (three times is even better!) to ensure sugars aren’t making a home in your mouth.
Gum Disease is Rare
Don’t believe this very false myth. Gum disease affects almost 50% of people over the age of 30. As we age, our chances increase. While this is a disheartening statistic, it doesn’t have to be. Continue visiting Dr. Strandburg multiple times a year to ensure that your teeth and gums are in top shape!
