4 Teeth Cleaning Mistakes to Avoid

Using Your Toothbrush Until It’s Frayed
Did you know that the American Dental Association recommends replacing your toothbrush at least four times a year? Every three months, throw out your frayed toothbrush and replace it with a new one. Bristles that remain in tact are more effective to fight plaque. (Plaque can lead to tooth decay, gum disease, and gingivitis!)
Purchasing the Wrong Toothbrush
At the top of a toothbrush package, it is labeled soft, medium, or hard. This refers to the toothbrush’s bristles. Always choose a toothbrush labeled soft or medium, as a hard-bristled toothbrush can damage delicate gum tissue and cause further problems.
Forgetting to Floss
Brushing your teeth and flossing should be a daily activity. A toothbrush can only clean the surfaces of your teeth, not the sides. To ensure optimal oral hygiene, it’s imperative to floss between your teeth at least once a day. If you just started flossing, it’s likely that your gums will bleed when you floss. This is because your gums are infected due to plaque. The floss will remove the plaque and strengthen your gums. After a few days, your gums shouldn’t bleed when you floss.
