When considering different whitening options, it’s important to maintain a healthy smile. Consider the following tips:
Brush Immediately After Eating & Drinking
Although it may be inconvenient, the best way to maintain both healthy teeth and a white smile is by simply brushing your teeth right after eating or drinking. Consuming colored beverages, such as coffee and soda, often leads to discolored teeth.
If you can’t brush your teeth right away, consider drinking through a straw to avoid direct contact. If you don’t have a straw, try to drink water immediately after the colored beverage. Additional causes of changes in the color of your teeth include tobacco use, age, trauma, and certain medications.
Use Toothpaste with Whitener
While most toothpastes fight to remove surface stains, toothpastes with the ADA seal for safe whitening contain additional ingredients to fight stains. Don’t be too quick to use over-the-counter bleach products. While over-the-counter products do brighten your smile, ADA-approved whitening toothpastes are recommended.
Take-Home Teeth Whitening
Our office provides take-home teeth whitening kits. A thorough exam is required prior to whitening your teeth to see if you are a good candidate. After this consultation, we will create a mold of your teeth for you to use. Trays are typically worn while sleeping.
Occasionally, whitening toothpastes and products may increase teeth sensitivity. While this is usually temporary, feel free to contact our office with any questions you may have.
